Dourneay Hydrogeological Strategy

This project developed a comprehensive long-term hydrogeological strategy for the decommissioning of the Dounreay Site. The strategy document aims to ensure that appropriate data are collected to lead to a full understanding of the movement of surface and groundwater across and beneath the whole site and that investigations are targeted and not duplicated. The strategy document: summarises the current interpretation of the surface and groundwater behaviour; identifies the uncertainties associated with the current interpretation; constructs a list of technical tasks that could provide information to address the uncertainties; prioritises the tasks in order of importance based on an initial evaluation; and recommends methods and initiatives to ensure that the site-wide hydrogeology strategy and database are regularly updated and widely adopted in future remediation planning.
