Outline Post-Closure Safety Case for the Dounreay Site

UKAEA is working towards the decommissioning, restoration and closure of the Dounreay site. The Dounreay Site Restoration Plan (DSRP) provides an overall view of the decommissioning and waste management activities that are required and their schedule. The DSRP assumed that risk-based arguments concerning future safety could be used to justify its closure, and assumed that these would be presented in a 'Post-Closure Safety Case' (PCSC) for the closed site. Recently, experience has been gained in the production of PCSCs, notably for the D1225 Shaft. Given the need to develop a safety-based foundation for the restoration of the Dounreay site in the near future, and the recent experience in the development of such a document for the Shaft, UKAEA considers it timely to develop outline ideas of the potential structure and content of a preliminary Site PCSC. The aim of this project was to develop a preliminary structure for such a document.
