Provision of Support for the 2002 Post-Closure Radiological Safety Assessment of the Drigg Near Surface Low Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility

Quintessa has provided support to BNFL for the development and documentation of the Drigg 2002 PCRSA. Work has been undertaken to: support the documentation of the radiological safety assessment; demonstrate the application of a logical and robust assessment approach; provide evidence of optimisation in the design and operation of the facility; calculate radiological impacts associated with a range of scenarios; present the associated results. For example, Quintessa provided support to BNFL for the assessment of future human actions (FHA) and disruptive events (DE). Specifically, radionuclide-dependent calculations of risks were carried out for each of the fifteen FHA and DE calculation cases considered in the PCSC.
