Quintessa is pleased to partner the GoldSim Technology Group in providing consultancy, training and support for the GoldSim software.

GoldSim is a powerful and flexible platform for visualizing and dynamically simulating physical, financial or organizational systems. Models can be constructed in an intuitive manner - literally by drawing a picture (an influence diagram) of the system to be modelled. In GoldSim, data and equations are created and manipulated graphically. GoldSim can then model how these systems evolve over time, and evaluate their future behaviour.

• Quantitatively address the inherent variability and uncertainty that is present in real-world systems (using Monte Carlo simulation).
• Superimpose the occurrence and consequences of discrete events onto continuously varying systems.
• Build top-down models using hierarchical containers that facilitate the simulation of large, complex systems while keeping them easy to understand and navigate.
• Dynamically link external programs or spreadsheets directly into a GoldSim model.
• Directly exchange data between any ODBC-compliant database and a GoldSim model.
• Insert graphics, notes and hyperlinks (to documents, websites, and presentations) in order to clearly explain a model to diverse audiences.
• Create custom designed graphical interfaces ('dashboards') to explain and demonstrate a model, and allow non-experts to use it.
• Save models as files that anyone can view and run using a free application (the 'GoldSim Player').

Modularity

GoldSim software is built using a modular framework that allows each user to customize their GoldSim package to provide exactly the functionality they need. Add on modules provide additional functionality for specialized users. Modules that are currently available include:

• GoldSim CT (contaminant transport) and GoldSim RT (radionuclide transport) are add-on modules for simulating the movement of chemicals and radionuclides in the environment.
• GoldSim DA (dashboard authoring) is an add-on module that allows users to design and construct a "dashboard" interface for models.
• GoldSim DP (distributed processing) and GoldSim DP Plus are add-on modules that allow users to work more efficiently by running GoldSim models on multiple computers across a network.

Breadth of Application

he GoldSim software suite allows models to be created that simulate the performance of complex systems in business, engineering and science. Examples of the application of GoldSim include modelling the transmission of infectious diseases, process simulation of coal combustion products, strategic planning for Yellowstone National Park, and the licensing of the proposed Yucca Mountain disposal facility for radioactive waste.

GoldSim has been used by and/or for a diverse set of customers and clients, including the U.S. Department of Energy, Bechtel, Booz Allen & Hamilton, Caterpillar, Caremark, EMC, DeBeers, Petrobras (Brazil), and Taisei Corporation (Japan). The software has also been used at almost 200 academic institutions in nearly 40 countries worldwide.
