Andrew Tinsley

Andrew has a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Plymouth and an MSc in Environmental Assessment and Management from Oxford Brookes University. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management and a Member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, and a Chartered Environmentalist. His career has spanned a wide range of environmental and safety projects in industry, both as a regulator and an operator. These have included hazardous waste disposal, permitting and regulation of industrial sites, and impact assessment of a variety of infrastructure, nuclear licensed sites and defence projects. He also has extensive experience of stakeholder engagement, liaison and learning from experience activities. He has a passion for knowledge management and ensuring sustainability lessons and approaches are shared between different sectors. He has recently contributed to updated IEMA guidance on Climate Change in Environmental Impact Assessment, due to be published in early 2020.

Interests

Andrew lives in Henley on Thames with his wife and two daughters. He is passionate about supporting the next generation of environmentalists and is an IEMA professional development mentor. He has a strong interest in industrial and defence legacy issues, and in developing longer-term environmental thinking amongst political decision makers. He enjoys hill walking and DIY. He has just built an eco-office in his garden, enjoying cutting much of his commute to a short stroll.
