Doug Graham

Doug has a chemical technology degree and a PhD in neutron scattering studies from the University of Durham, 32 years experience in the nuclear industry at Dounreay, with 18 in senior management in waste management, programme strategy, environment management and site restoration.  This included: defining the Dounreay Site Restoration Plan, the strategy and priorities for restoring a complex nuclear site; managing the environmental department ensuring compliance and improving environmental performance; and taking the site through it’s end state consultation, driving restoration process development, individual facility end states and regulator interaction, working through the NDA.

Doug has managed multi-disciplinary teams engaged in a diverse range of technical and strategic projects, been involved in national and international support projects, collaborations and reviews, and been an active participant in the IAEA ISAM Programme, ending up its Chairman in its last year.


Doug is very interested in the outdoor world, being an active mountaineer, skier and cross-country runner. He has 26 years active membership of the Assynt Mountain Rescue Team, holding roles as secretary and, more latterly, Chairman. He now hopes to pick this up again in Cornwall, where he moved after retiring from Dounreay Site Restoration Limited, along with all things artistic, to fall in line with his new partner who is a successful artist.
