Paul Grimwood

Paul is an environmental scientist and an expert in radioactive waste management, with 40 years experience in environmental safety and the nuclear industry. His main interests are the development and role of environmental safety cases and their role in setting waste acceptance criteria and site operating conditions. He was the technical manager at the UK’s principal low level waste disposal site in Cumbria during the development of the site from trench style disposals to vault operations. He has also supported developments at other UK sites for LLW and VLLW disposal as well as being involved in several other national and international waste disposal projects. Experience includes waste characterisation and controls, waste treatment and containerisation, disposal option and waste strategy development, site characterisation and remediation, safety case management and regulatory and stakeholder liaison.

Interests

Paul enjoys walking in the woods and on the fells of the Forest of Bowland near where he moved to ten years ago. He also likes travelling further afield, especially to visit the old towns of southern Europe. He has environmental interests outside of work, as well as being a keen observer of politics and economics.
