Ron Crawford

Ron Crawford

Ron is a multi-disciplinary scientist and strategic coordinator with over 35 years experience across operations, decommissioning, planning, regulation and environmental management in the UK nuclear industry. Ron has a proven track record of diverse managerial/technical expertise in developing and implementing strategies/solutions that enable successful new build, decontamination, decommissioning, waste management and environmental remediation projects. He holds a BSc in Applied Chemistry and a PhD in Nuclear Geochemistry from the University of Glasgow. Ron is a Chartered Chemist (CChem), Chartered Scientist (CSci) and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). He is also a Practitioner of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (PIEMA), Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Fellow of the Nuclear Institute (FNucI). Ron has successfully co-ordinated planning consents and environmnetal permits for major nuclear developments including two ILW stores, the Dounreay Shaft hydrogeological isolation project, DFR breeder fuel removal plant and the new LLW disposal facility. He provided vital embedded technical support to ONR on Radioactive Waste Management, Spent Fuel and Decommissioning for new build licensing and the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) of the UK ABWR.

Interests

Ron is a keen mountaineer and hillwalker having climbed extensively throughout the UK, Europe, South Africa and the USA. He is an active member of both the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Nuclear Institute and maintains a deep interest in cosmology, music and whisky.
