Jon Smithson

Jon gained a BSc in Geology and an MSc in Engineering Geology before beginning his professional career with a ground investigation and consultancy company. This gave Jon an excellent grounding in geotechnical and geological investigation, characterisation and analysis, and began to develop his specialist skills in slope stability, earthworks and foundation design.  After a brief period in a leading water sector client organisation Jon has spent 24 years in technical consultancy. He has worked in a wide range of sectors including Nuclear, Energy, Transport, Water, Development and Regeneration. As a result Jon has led some of the UKs most challenging and exciting regeneration projects.  This has given Jon an excellent appreciation of how different disciplines interact as well as developing his specialist skills in geotechnical engineering and contaminated land.  Jon’s career has largely been spent in the UK but his project work has taken him into Italy and Germany, as well as a spell in India in a management and integration role as well as advising on cut slopes in the Himalayas.
