Peter Wood

Peter Wood has a BA in chemistry, a DPhil in electrochemistry and is a Chartered Chemist.  He has worked on nuclear fuel performance in and out of reactor.  This work has included: conducting experimental studies of out-of-reactor oxidation of nuclear fuel; establishing the mechanism and kinetics of potential oxidation of nuclear fuel in reactor coolant; and managing and conducting measurements of fission gas release in reactor.  Peter also has experience of Magnox reactor graphite monitoring.  His more recent extensive experience is in development of research strategy, research programmes and obtaining solutions for radioactive waste management: corrosion performance of stainless steel waste packages; fire and impact accident performance of ILW packages; criticality safety during all phases of long term waste management; and communication of research results and their application in safety cases.

Interests

Peter spent the first 15 years of his life within a few hundred yards of Hadrian’s Wall, and looks forward to extending his interest of things Roman to warmer climes. Now he enjoys living by the River Thames. He also enjoys cycling in the Chilterns, especially up hills - these offer good training for better known ascents in the Pyrenees and Alps.
