Quintessa Update
April 2002
Welcome to the Spring 2002 edition of Quintessa Update, the electronic newsletter of Quintessa Limited (www.quintessa.org)
Geosciences
Two recent events have strengthened
Quintessa's capabilities in
geosciences consulting.
First,
we are pleased to welcome
Richard Metcalfe to the Yokohama office. Richard has extensive
experience of geochemical aspects of radioactive waste, mine waste and carbon
dioxide disposal. Secondly, our
Memorandum of Understanding with the
British Geological Survey has recently been extended to include
colleagues at Enviros
Limited. This taken together with the capabilities of our
geosciences staff and associate consultants facilitates Quintessa's involvement in a wider
range of geoscience projects. For the results of a recent project on modelling geochemical
interactions of bentonite and cement,

Safety Assessment
Over the past three years, Quintessa has carried out a
wide range of radioactive waste
safety assessment projects for
clients in twelve countries. An interesting new development concerns
the borehole disposal of disused sealed sources, for which Quintessa is
carrying out a safety assessment for the South African Nuclear Energy
Corporation (NECSA).
This forms part of a wider project co-ordinated by the
IAEA. For further information on this and related projects, please
contact
Richard Little.
Quality Assurance
Quintessa is pleased to record that it has recently
achieved registration to BS EN ISO 9001 : 2000. For further information, please
contact Quintessa's Quality Co-ordinator,
Philip Maul.
