Nagra has submitted a general licence application (RBG) for a deep geological repository for low- and intermediate-level waste (L/ILW), alpha-toxic waste (ATW) and high-level waste (HLW) in the Opalinus Clay in Nördlich Lägern, Switzerland. The application is supported by a large number of technical reports which have been made available on a dedicated digital platform, allowing anyone interested to study the supporting safety case. Quintessa has worked for several years to provide post-closure safety assessment support Nagra’s application.

Quintessa recently supported several meetings of the international collaborative BIOPROTA forum, which supports the resolution of key issues in the biosphere assessment of radioactive waste disposal. The meetings included a workshop on sorption, plant uptake and bioavailability, a workshop on biosphere characterisation and the annual BIOPROTA meeting for 2025.

Quintessa employees have undertaken a number of outreach activities over the last few months as part of our charitable and STEM activities.
We are pleased to announce that Kerys Swift joined our Warrington office in January as our Accounts and Administration Assistant and Josh Nicholas joined our Henley office in June as a consultant following completion of his MPhys degree which included an industrial placement year with us in 2022/2023. We also welcome Ben Porter from the University of Bath and Danny Bosworth from the University of Manchester as they start their placement year with us as part of undergraduate courses in Physics, and Computer Science and Mathematics, respectively.
