Spirit Energy holds Carbon Dioxide Appraisal and Storage (CS) Licence CS010 for developing the depleted South and North Morecambe gas fields to provide permanent, safe and secure carbon storage. Quintessa supported Spirit Energy’s application for CS010 and has continued to provide support in Containment Risk Assessment and developing Monitoring and Corrective Measures Plans through the Appraise Phase of the Licence.

In March, Quintessa delivered two five-day training courses on the safety assessment of near-surface disposal of radioactive waste and the associated application of the AMBER software tool. The courses were tailored to support the assessment of the proposed Romanian disposal facility (DFDSMA) for short-lived low and intermediate radioactive waste (LILW-SL) which is being undertaken by Kinectrics Nuclear Romania (KNR) under contract to the Nuclear and Radioactive Waste Agency (ANDR).

As part of the Company’s continuing planning for its future, Quintessa has appointed five new directors from 1st May 2026, who between them have more than 80 years’ experience working for Quintessa. It has also recently welcomed Millie Gibbons from the University of Bath and Pat Watt from the University of Manchester as they start their placement year with us as part of undergraduate courses in Physics and Mathematics, respectively.
