Undergraduate Placement Year at Quintessa: 2027/28
Quintessa is looking to recruit up to two undergraduate students for a 12-month placement, starting in July 2027. Placement students support our work on environmental and energy challenges, including radioactive waste disposal, carbon dioxide sequestration and nuclear reactor safety. This often involves the development and application of mathematical models and software. One student will be based in our Henley-on-Thames and the other in our Warrington office. Students require an ability to develop an understanding of physical systems being modelled, as well as having the motivation to learn and apply the associated numerical and IT skills. You will be supported throughout your placement by working closely with other members of our team. Students are also expected to contribute to a range of wider business activities.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that interest them, gain experience that is directly relevant to their degree, develop their report writing and presentational skills, and meet and collaborate with employees from both offices.
Placement students invariably leave us well versed in some or all of the following:
- modelling capabilities and understanding of their application to real world problems;
- application of technical software to a wide range of issues, including coupled processes, data processing and supporting decision making;
- the use of a wide range of commercial software packages including the Microsoft Office suite; and
- learning and application of new programming languages.
