Alex Bond attended the second International Conference on Discrete Fracture Network Engineering (DFNE-2018), held in Seattle, USA. At the conference, Alex presented a paper summarising work from Task C1 of DECOVALEX-2015 (Coupled THMC modelling of single fractures in novaculite and granite) and also chaired a session on flow and transport through fractured rocks… Full Details
Quintessa provides support to Radioactive Waste Management Limited (RWM) across a number of projects relating to improving the understanding of the performance of cementitious materials in geological disposal facilities. Papers from this work have recently been published in Cement and Concrete Research and Applied Geochemistry.
Quintessa is playing a leading role in the EURATOM Horizon2020 project "Beacon: Bentonite Mechanical Evolution". Kate Thatcher and Rebecca Newson attended the first Annual Meeting for Beacon in Milos, Greece, in May 2018, presenting, alongside other partners, a hydro-mechanical model of two laboratory swelling experiments run by Clay Technology AB as a benchmarking exercise… Full Details
In March 2018, James Wilson presented two papers at the Waste Management Symposium 2018 (WM2018) in Phoenix, Arizona. The papers covered geochemical modelling of cementitious barriers in radioactive waste repositories and a study associated with assessing and managing risks associated with both hazardous materials and radionuclides. In addition to these papers, a third paper was presented on the IAEA’s Borehole Disposal Concept (BDC) for Sealed Radioactive Sources, which included Richard Little as co-author… Full Details
